After Stephen Baster completed a riding double, winning the first two events, Sale trainer Paul Worthington’s four year old gelding Rooconi, ridden by Dale Smith, won race three, the Maiden Plate.

Ian Hutchins continued the winning run for Sale when his five year old mare Miss Procyon, ridden by Jason Benbow, won race four the BM64 Handicap, and Rodney Wallace completed the Sale trifecta, when Oscar’s My Mate Pa won race six, the BM70 Handicap.

There was plenty of excitement for local syndicate members when Rooconi won race three, and jockey Dale Smith said that the gelding raced green, but will continue to improve, and he was impressed with the win.

Ian Hutchin’s mare Miss Procyon was heading for a win after finishing second at Traralgon, Bairnsdale, and Mornington, with Jason Benbow in the saddle for three near misses.

Luck has just started to turn for the horse, who has now won four and placed six times, from 29 starts.

Rodney Jones, who also trains at Sale, is having a good run with Oscar’s My Mate Pa, who won at Sale in November and was coming off a last start third at Bairnsdale, and regular jockey Beau Mertens has two wins from four starts.

Stephen Baster, who won the first race on Cranbourne galloper Via Cavour, completed his riding double on World of Hope in race two.

Cranbourne trainer Wendy Kelly and rider Jordan Childs combined to win race five, the BM64 Handicap, with Gibbon.

Epic Saga has been racing at Moonee Valley, and won race seven, the BM70 Handicap, and consistent Mornington galloper Undercover Poet, ridden by Jack Hill, won the final race, the BM64 Handicap.

It was another top day’s racing, despite the cool conditions and showers, and the next event at Greenwattle Racecourse will be the Australia Day Weekend meeting on Sunday January 24.
