Smith Family in need of helpers

Residents are being asked to join the Smith Family in order to tutor for the group’s Learning Clubs.

Twenty local residents are needed, to be spread between all four initiatives, which support 60 disadvantagedstudents by providing asafe environmentfor themto work on their homework and receive learning support.

The Smith Family’s Program Coordinator, Jeremy Head, explained the need for volunteers, and urged anyone interested in education to join up.

“Volunteer tutors play a vital role in Learning Clubs by donating their time and expertise to support students with their homework, confidence and general literacy skills,” he said.

Abilities the Smith Family are looking for in a volunteer include good listening and communication, patience, enthusiasm, and empathy.

Tutors will be provided with support and are not required to be experts in curriculum areas. Volunteers must complete a selection process before commencing.
