Push to approve airport bid

PLANS: Council managers and councillors at Bendigo Airport in 2014. Picture: JIM ALDERSEYCITY of Greater Bendigo councillors will this week consider a recommendation that they approve a company for the $12.1 million Bendigo Airport redevelopment.

A report will be put forward at the council’s first meeting for the year on Wednesday night recommending that BMD Constructions be awarded the contract.

A primary feature of the redevelopment will be the construction of a new runway and associated infrastructure such as lighting, signage and fencing.

The council hopes the expansionwill attract at least one commercial carrier to Bendigo, generate employment and bring economic, tourismand recreational benefits.

BMD was one of five companies short-listed for the project and achieved the highest assessment score when applications wereevaluated.

“The tender was also the lowest priced,” the agenda says.“It is highly desirable that works commence in early February.”

The council will also be asked to approve Fairbrother forworks at Bendigo Stadium that include the construction ofeight netball courts.
