Narooma women bowlers back for 2016

A keen group reunited last Tuesday for the first day of ladies bowls this year. A good roll-up of 24played four games of triples – Isabel and Helen shared their game and Clare got plenty of practice playing swinging lead.

Denise Holman, Sue Wales and Dawn Kenny (skip) had a good game against Pam Grant, Jan Speechley and Anne Hunter (skip). Although both teams won the same number of ends, Dawn’s team had the edge, taking the game and winning the lucky rink prize.

Second place went to rink seven, where an 18-18draw was the result between Clare Cork, Jan Rapkins and Betty Greenshields (skip) playing Clare Cork, Heather McGourty and Gail Palmer (skip). A countback revealed that both teams won an equal number of ends, so winnings were divided.

Novice Singles competition is up firston this year’s calendar, with six ladies competing in the round robin event. At the conclusion of the first two rounds Pam Grant has won both her matches.

Merran Pell, Jan Rapkins and Denise Holman have each won a game while Clare Cork and Coral Read had a draw. Play continues on January 28 and competition should be hot.

Minor SinglesEntry sheet arein ladies locker room. Play commences on February 11 so check your diary and get your entry in.

There will be a quarterly meeting on Tuesday,February 9, following bowls.

Australia Day is next Tuesday,January 26 and men and women bowlers are invited to join us for a day of fun. It will be aMixed Joe’s Special with cards called at 9.30 to play 18 ends or until the bell at 12.30pm.

Dress up in your best Australia outfit – a prize for the best dressed. Don’t forget – All Welcome, Entry sheet in bowler’s hallway – hope to see you there.
