BURGEONING Ararat cyclist Lucas Hamilton will take the biggest step of his career on Monday when he begins his assault on the Tour Down Under in South Australia.

Hamilton will join team UniSA-Australia for the six-stage race, taking onplenty of talented riders.

The 19-year-old learntof his place in the team last week, and told theMail-Timesit was a surreal experience to ride in the tour.

“It’s literally our grand final,” Hamiltonsaid.

“It’s the best race we can do and it’s a big opportunity.”

The Ararat export enters today’s first stage full of confidence after nearly clinching the under-23 road race at the Road National Championships in Ballarat.

He will rub shoulders with the likes of Simon Gerrans, Richie Porte, Geraint Thomas, and defending champion Rohan Dennis.

“It hasn’t sunk in yet that i’ll be able to race against my idols,” Hamilton said.
