Connor can’t wait to start big school

Connor hasattended The Shepherd Centrein Wollongong full-time, three days a week, for the past three years.

On January 28 he will be part of a record 48 Shepherd Centre graduates who will start mainstream kindergarten.

Connor was diagnosed with bilateral profound hearing loss at birth. At eightmonths old, he received his first Cochlear implant, and his second followed shortly after at 15 months.

His parents Rebecca DaSilva and Sean Tubridy also have hearing impairments and actually received support from The Shepherd Centre themselves.They are the first graduates to have a child also graduate.

“When Connor started at the Shepherd Centre I was happy because I knew he was in the best place to learn to listen and talk,’’ Mr Tubridy said.

Connor starts at Albion Park Rail Public School with speech and language skills on par with those of his hearing peers.
